Classic & Creamy Hummus

I’m sure you must by now be familiar with hummus; a savory dip/ spread made of garbanzo beans, which originates from Middle Eastern cultures and is common amongst the Mediterranean. As an excellent source of plant- protein, this dish is perfect accompanied with some fresh vegetables or served with pita bread. Additionally, this recipe is 100% oil- free, by using wholesome tahini instead 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (16 oz) of garbanzo beans (2 cups cooked from fresh)
  • 1 cup aquafaba (the liquid left from the can- or during cooking)
  • 1/2 a medium onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp tahini
  • 1 lemon juiced (3 tbsp)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Procedure:

  1. Start by roasting you garlic and onion. Though this step is optional, I do suggest it for an additional depth of flavor.
  2. In a food processor, add in all of the ingredients (including your roasted garlic & onion)- apart from the aquafaba.
  3. Begin pulsing/ blending, and add the aquafaba as you go. (you may need to scrape down the sides as you go.)
  4. Once blended evenly, taste to check for flavor and consistency. Feel free to adjust the seasonings to your taste. If the texture is too thick (not spreadable), pop the lid back on your food processor and blend again; adding some iced- water as you go.
  5. Serve with some pita bread or fresh vegetables of your choice!
